[16 Feb] My Vote is my Future - Power of One Vote

After hundred years of struggle, India received its freedom in 1947. India, being a democratic country since then, has a government of the people, by the people and for the people. And this gives us, every individual citizen of India, a right to vote and elect a leader of our own choice. The purpose of voting is to select a person whom the majority of people find capable enough to represent and manage the country or the state.

But with data from history, we can say that there are many people who are not participating in this process of election. With a population of 1.3 billion, at maximum, we have recorded 67% of people turning up on the day of the election and casting their vote. So as of now, almost half of the country is deciding the result and the other half of the population is neglecting the importance of their vote. These people are either prioritizing their work or think that one vote among the pool of billion will not make any significant change, which further does not motivate them to cast their vote.

However, among the people who have casted their vote, we have registered many incidents where people cast in favour of any particular political party in exchange for a sum of money. Overall, what we can derive is that the majority of voters are not informed and do not make an educated decision.

There are many election results where political parties are won by the marginal difference of votes. For example, in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, in Uttar Pradesh, BJP beat BSP by only 181 votes. Therefore, every vote is important and contributes to our future.

To conclude we can say that, our one vote is equivalent to a brick, which as one may not look significant but when all comes together, it can make a big strong building. Our one vote has the potential to change our future to turn up down and through our vote we can share our opinion. If we find any political party then we can cast our vote for them and if in case we don’t like anyone then we can cast a NOTA (None of the above). But in every scenario, we should exercise our duty and right to vote and make our valuable contribution to our bright future.
